I was just reading an article about Patrick Cherry, the cop who was bullying the Uber driver so disgracefully, and this in particular caught my attention:

Detective Cherry has been the subject of 12 previous complaints to the review board, city officials said, dating to 2001. Some involved similar allegations.

I can't help but wonder if this would have been totally passed over, even with the corroboration of the passenger, if it weren't for the video going public. And those dozen were only when people were worked up enough to complain. Imagine how many may have been so browbeaten that they were too frightened to complain.

Here's the article, if anyone's curious:

I have a feeling they long ago made the decision to put him in a job where he had very limited contact with the public,to protect themselves and to let him coast till retirement and his pension.Looks like the dude is so whacked that he still couldn't keep out of trouble . He had to seek it out.

Thats why I am a big advocate for police body cameras. They will root out the bad cops like Cherry, but at the same time help the good cops legitimately defending themselves like in Michael Brown case, etc.

Body cameras would probably be only on uniformed cops.
