They're not bulldozed. I was just there the other day and it's the same as it was five years ago. Businesses have closed but the buildings are still standing.
There are huge heaping mounds of dirty over parts of swillers visible from the 7 train. I pass by there regularly.

I don't know what you're seeing from the train but I was at WP a few weeks ago to get my car fixed and it looked unchanged from when I first went there 5 years ago.
Has something changed very recently?
Last I read, the project was placed on hold again.

The project will be delayed until all businesses are gone. They have to get demolition permits for the businesses that moved out on June 1st and the site has to be re mediated. With that said there are big mounds of dirt and bulldozers near the water and this is visible from the train. Part of Willets Point is being re mediated now. But is proceeding.

This is the latest news (9 hours ago). There is a legal issue prohibiting the project from proceeding.
This article, dated 7/6/2015, discusses the state of the businesses. It references work on a sewer main. Perhaps that is why you are seeing mounds of dirt. Other than that, I see no references to demolition. But I'll take a ride through to see for myself.

I think that is on the parking lot on the other side of Citi Field. It is protected as parkland, which to me is a load of crap. That area couldn't resemble a park in the slightest bit. Many times laws lack plain old common sense. Just let them develop it already, and focus your fight on things that matter. Its nonsense for any politician to protect a freaking parking lot, chop shops, and/or polluted sewage waste.
The site desperately needs to be demolished because it is a health hazard and an eyesore.
I'm not in favor of a mall but yes to retail facing the stadium, housing, the schools and hotels. Queens has enough malls as it is. Let's get something else for a change. A soccer stadium was discussed. That would be a nice addition.

They have plenty of stadiums around their already, but agree that they should add some mixed use facilities instead of the same old run of the mill mall.
Soccer is very popular in the neighboring community. Who knows, maybe Queens could host a World Cup event! A stadium was on the discussion table at some point, and it would be a nice addition to tennis, baseball, swimming, hockey/ice skating, and the new gym.

So they should concentrate on making the fields that they can actually play on nicer. Professionals can just play in Citi Field similar to how they use Yankee Stadium.
They could put in an amateur stadium across the street, which would be nice for high schools and adult non professionals. Just saying the are better uses for the land than another mall.
