I'm buddies with a younger guy who swears he's moving there to do his art. We'll see. He's got a bunch of money in his pocket and no particular job I'm aware of so it might happen.

I've also see advertisements around east williamsburg and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. "Detroit-Detroit?" I thought.

Nothing against Detroit - but there's a much better version of it not that far away in Chicago.

Probably one of the last places in the US that someone should move to.

The companies that employ creatives such as film, tv, tech, design, etc are not in Detroit.

Therefore Detroit presently isn't going to gentrify.

However since California is undergoing a severe water shortage, perhaps Michigan could give Silicon Valley firms huge tax credits to move operations to Detroit. If something like this happened, THEN Detroit could gentrify.

But they would need substantial corporate investment to pull this off. People forget artists are employed by companies, not big companies. You can't just send a bunch of people to a run down city and say that they are going to be able to "gentrify it".

Even in NYC areas like Williamsburg, LIC, Astoria, Westside of Manhattan, Dumbo,Harlem, and Downtown Brooklyn blew up because of huge tax credits that were given to developers and corporations for moving into these areas.
