Im gona move to NY
Any 1 has a site or can tell me a full report about Brooklyn/Queens/The Bronx or Harlem?
Any 1 who lives there please choose the best area from the above and give me info about it (by best I mean cheapest, safest etc...)
I need to find info about how hard is it to find a job
How hard is it to find an apartment/ a studio?
How expensive apartments/studios are
What other expenses i have to pay monthly e.g. what bills I have to pay
I’m 18 and currently living in Australia so i am kind of ignorant about the US
Can any 1 provide me with info?
Thanks alot!

These boros are very large with little "towns" inside each one. Harlem has gotten yupified, but is still primarily compromised of African Americans. Be careful in the South Bronx, not as safe as other areas. Check out Removed Studios can range from $800 to 1500 per month. You will have to pay NYC and New York State income tax
What type of job are you looking for?

I think you should seriously reconsider becoming an NYC resident. Do you know someone from Oz that's already settled and working in Manhattan or Queens, or even The Bronx? I must add it may be a little precarious for an 18 yr. old starting out miles away from home.

Actually being 18 may be an advantage- you'll put up with more inconvenience, smaller appartment, lower pay, and do it with a sense of adventure! Your best bet for a job is likely as a bartender or something, but you can't do that until you're 21. Nowhere is 'cheap' anymore in NYC- you'll probably have to gang up with 2, 3, 4 other people and cram into a place in East Williamsburg or LIC or Queens.
I don't know what healthcare, etc. is like in Oz, but you'll be on your own here- little in the way of a social safety net, especially if you are not a 'legal' resident/US citizen.

Commutation=cost. Down town Manhattan is where the big money and big employers are at. The further you get from that the lower the prices go. Apts close to the subway lines are more desired and more expensive. If your commute involve 2 subways a bus ride and perhaps a four story walk up it gets even lower. But even at that everything is expensive. The suburbs are very expensive and prices tend to drop as you get more distant, but with a population of 8-10 million, there are people who drive up to 90 miles each way for cheaper realestate and again even then any proximatey to NYC will cost. God luck, the city is an adventure! Glen

Oh great help
and I agree, I’m willing to live in any apartment without caring really small, big, no problem
and in OZ we have health care so that’s not a problem really
and we have the auto insurance policy law for car buyers so i am aware of that
well I guess that’s all i need guys, and yes i have decided ill am coming 2 Brooklyn (the cheapest)
from this August ~ November because ticket price will be 980 Bucks that time which will be excellent
I don’t really care about the flight hehe i need the cheapest thing
THANKS ALOT PEOPLE YOU’RE THE BEST!!!~~~

things to expect:
an apartment the size of a closet
high crime
hamburgers for about $8
many, many unfriendly people
rough neighborhoods
bums
an overall great city!

Chemi
where in oz are you? we're going at the end of June - the funny thing is we arrive on the day we leave, but it takes 2 days to get back home! lol
I think you are incredibly brave - stay safe.
