RELATED sent me an application yesterday for 3 of their buildings that they are opening their waiting lists on. Seems one application works for all 3 buildings.
They are only for studio apartments at $565 rent (Income limit: $19,965 to $24,200)
The buildings are THE WESTMINSTER in Chelsea.
ONE UNION SQUARE (I'd love that location, and the building is beautiful.)
MIMA in Midtown.
Applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2015.

I just happen to be on their mailing list from long, long, LONG ago when 80/20 was first conceived, and I pass on the info to others who might be able to use it. I can't.
I also think they may be the major source of 80/20 affordables in Manhattan.

I hate them too. After a three month wait, they just put me on a waiting list for Hunter's Point. They dodged my phone calls as well before I found out (and received the letter). For some reason, I feel they are treating the "low income" families a bit harsh and "different" even though it's affordable housing. I will call to get an application but I will remain pessimistic; I am bit reluctant to deal with them again. Thanks, Kefir, for the number.

Oh, I agree. You've got to come to them, groveling hat in hand with a humble demeanor, grateful for their kindly beneficence. But once IN you have the hammer of New York law on your side. So some dutiful asss-kissing might pay dividends. "Yes, M'Lord."
Hey, they are no better nor worse than all the rest of the slimy landlords in this City, just bigger and maybe even a little more honest than most. But landlords are, ultimately, $$$landlords.$$$
I really wish there were a few more "middle-income" lotteries. While I'm grateful that my days of $24k are loooong behind me, it doesn't mean that I don't want an opportunity to get an affordable apartment.

Yep, they are scarce as hens' teeth...but an unassailable fact is that Mr. $24K needs affordable far more than even Joe Median at $50K and far, far more than Madame Middle Class at whatever nebulous amount that is defined to be (John McCain says $400,000.)
What NYC needs to lower rents for market renters is a nice plague that quickly wipes out about a million families and 50,000 landlords.
Related's buldings are the cats meow. They have exquisite design, and prime locations. Congrats.
