You might want to check out the Newark, NJ area. You can get a large apartment there in your price range with street parking. PATH train from Newark stops at 23rd Street near the Chelsea Market. It's fast and it runs 24/7.

Wifey may be more amenable to moving out of LA when strict water rationing takes full effect starting this June.

Must not be that great of a job opportunity if you can only shell out $1600 for rent.

I hope you don't mean she's reacting solely on the basis of the weather? In any case, I hope she can understand that it's not 99+ for most of the year.

She's not gonna be happy on where are that affords you to live. Can you afford more or you just don't want to pay more? Your commute time will be about an hour I'd guess. And at the time of night/morning trains only run every 20 minutes so make sure you pick an area you only need 1 train to get home or your commute will end up being much longer.

If shes going to be miserable if for sure will affect the marriage. I am not one to discourage you to want to move somewhere new-But is your relocation/transfer a must?

I hope things work out for you both.

How much of a good offer is it that you are considering moving here? Seriously, unless it's like at least 30% increase, I would not do it. For $1,600, you won't be able to have all three points checked-decent apartment, decent area, decent commute, it will, at most, be two out of the three.
