Married man from Miami here, now living in L.A. (so we are used to BIG houses and apartments) because of work I will be moving to NYC. I will be working near The Chelsea Market. Problem is, I get off work at 1am. Don't want to spend more than $1600 but want at least 700 sq feet and a One bedroom. And want to be able to get to and from work without huge hassles.

The Wife doesn't want to leave Southern Cali. Went to NY once and unfortunately it was 99 degrees and humid as can be! so she hated it. If i then move her to a small horrible apartment in bad neighborhood, she will hate it even more. So fellow New Yorkers please help. For one, help her understand NYC is the best. and second let me know what are best areas to live. Id even be willing to live in Jersey, if getting to and from work wouldn't be to bad.

Thank you all!

Asking for real help here. Please any suggestions as far as areas to live, certain pockets to avoid or look into would be greatly appreciated.

Rego Park, Jackson Heights in Queens near the subway (ultimately the E train to 14th and Eight Ave, near work.

You won't get 700 square feet in an area of Manhattan that the wife won't hate for $1600.
Consider also Brooklyn near the L train...the farther away, the cheaper.

Today is the kind of day your wife would hate...upper 80's and unbearable humidty (98% this morning.) I think I saw a macaw up in the sphagnum moss on Third Avenue.

Your thread title and second paragraph say it all. She's going to be miserable. Try explaining the extra paycheck $ to a depressed woman. You can't buy happiness.
