Alright, this is something that's been bothering me for a while now.

I would think that I'm a decent tipper (usually 20-22%), but the delivery guys don't even mention the fact that I left them a tip. I usually place orders and tip online, if that makes a difference.

Am I overreacting, or is it how things are in NYC??

They want their tips in cash, not added to the credit card payment (which they will likely either never see or only get a small portion of it)

They probably never see any of your tips.

We never put a tip on credit or debit card, always cash and I always hand the server the cash to make sure they actually get it.

Delivery always gets a tip in cash. We keep dollar bills in a cut out two liter bottle for the purpose. Don't come and rob me.

One of the local diners in my area has you sign the credit card slip when the food is delivered as the delivery person carries an old fashioned machine that imprints your credit card information on the slip. On this slip there is a place to add a tip via credit card and the delivery person can see what that tip is. So in this particular case, I see no reason not to add the tip via credit card.

I bartend, and although the places I work give us our CC tips in cash at the end of the shift, many places don't. your server/bartender might not see that money for 2 weeks since so many places pay bi-weekly now. delivery guys might never see online tips if mgmt decides to keep it

always tip in cash.
