I have been a landlord for over a year now and I haven't had a bad experience yet. I recently bought a multi-family townhouse in western queens and rented one of the units (I am a onsite landlord). Given my lack of experience I asked a lot of questions and leveraged the experience of my neighbors, lawyer who help me buy the property, real estate agent who found the tenants for me. As a landlord I feel rather spoiled (tenants responsibility to pay broker fee), however, I still remember how terrible it was to be a tenant so I always try to keep that in mind when dealing with the tenants.
