folks

how is the commute on weekday mornings from bensonhurst to hoboken, NJ. I guess the best route would be through staten island into NJ. Is there traffic by default and how long is the commute? Same question the way back at 4pm. I do know the tolls are expensive but those will be paid for

Thx

The better option would be through Manhattan...and time will depend on whether you take the Battery Tunnel or the Brooklyn Bridge. Either way, you will be stuck in traffic both ways.

Going thru lower Manhattan is about half the mileage that it would be thru Stagnated Island.
Traffic can be a B but if I was going that way I'd scoot out the Holland hole.

You know by subway and PATH its supposed to be about 1hr 1 minute total also.

D train from Besonhurst to 4th St Manhattan, walk to 9th St PATH then PATH to Hobotown.

Or any other subway down to WTC area and WTC PATH train out to America (NJ).

Would not even consider doing this commute. Sounds like a guaranteed way to make yourself completely miserable.

If you do have to commute from Bensonhurst to Hoboken, do it by train. It will still take you over an hour, but at least you won't be sitting behind the wheel of a car and paying $15+ in tolls.

Actually I think if you do the EZpass thing and only use the Holland Hole In the wall and use one of the toll free East River Bridges you could do it slightly cheaper...Wow I just thought of something...you could do it for about $6 round trip but would have to go back through SI.

Longer drive going back but the way the tolls and commuter discounts are setup you could go cross the east River on a toll free bridge, west out the Holland, back from NJ over the Bayonne or Goethals with a commuter type EZpass which you setup online on your account and east over the VZB gangplank, no tolls that way. Longer drive back but OP also said tolls might be covered anyway...

I did Brooklyn Heights to Jersey City for a couple months. Brooklyn Bridge and Holland Tunnel.
Never less than an hour each way on a good day. Bad day, 90 minutes+. Horrible day, 2 hours each way.

It was an unbearable nightmare commute that caused me to move to Jersey City and enjoy a 15 minute commute each way.

If you're leaving from Bensonhurst, take the Verrazano to SI, then get on the 440 to Bayonne Bridge over to NJ. Don't bother going into Manhattan. You'll be in traffic from the BQE all the way to the bridge (or the Brooklyn BatteryTunnel), and from there all the way to the Holland. Not worth the trouble.

Alternately, take the D train to 34th Street and transfer to PATH. Hoboken is only 1 stop from this station.

Yeah that's going to add ~$15 bucks a day in tolls to go that way. Maybe coming home that would be good idea to run Bayonne and Verrazano. Going to be a lot of time sitting in the car either way.

I would say just start shopping around in Hoboken if it's going to be a long term thing, and enjoy a slightly lower tax burden.
