Dave was the guy who got me in to Late night TV. I started watching his show when I was 11 and couldn't sleep. I would sneak the TV on in the dark and keep it really low. I found him very funny. Watched him almost nightly as I became older. When he first started on CBS the show was amazing. He lost me in the mid 2000's. Not really sure why. I guess I became bored with his shtick. I enjoyed watching the last two shows this past week.

Sometimes funny, sometimes nasty, but my fav memory (never attended) is the way he handled the opening of the first post 9/11 show. That was classy, and spot on in terms of tone.

PS: Conan's start back post 9/11 was even classier, though.

Good edgy stand up comic ruined by being given $millions to appeal to middle American dimwits.

The top 10 lists were usually pretty funny. Paul Schaeffer and the band were great.

Although he was from Indiana, he was always loyal to NYC eventhough he could have moved his show out to L.A.

He's a good guy.

Rumor has it that when Mad magazine was looking for an image for Alfred E Neuman, Letterman modeled for it.

Never got into "Lettermen". I saw him as some actor dressed up in a suit reading scripted jokes written by professionals. It worked for Johnny whom I used to watch as a kid. When they tried to resurrect it with Leno it just didn't work...same thing with Saturday Night Live. I grew up with Belushi Eddie Murphy. There is now way these new crew members will win me over.

John Stewart Colbert or the italian looking guy with black hair...forgot his name....none of them worth watching.

I never thought about it, but that's a good call.
