What are your favorite New York metro area suburbs? This is based on IMO commute to NYC, lifestyle, 'town spirit', schooling, & crime statistics.

By these standards my personal top 3 would be:

1. Piscataway
2. Great Neck
3. Woodbridge

Honorable mentions to towns like:

Valley Stream
Levittown
Westfield
Old Bridge
Somerset
Freehold
Edison
Middletown
Huntington

What do you guys think?

I would love to hear your opinions

Woodbridge is nice, as are some of the others. Still, I wouldn't encourage people to invest/move to affordable and close NYC suburbs as you can expect to see increased gang violence, etc., as people continue to be priced out of NYC and move there.

I like Bronxville . THE best in my book. After that maybe Rye or Mamaroneck.

Generally,I think the lower Westchester and Ct suburbs are much nicer than Long Island or New Jersey.

I would pick Bronxville, Scarsdale, Hartsdale, and White Plains section of Westchester for accessibility to Manhattan, affordability, aesthetic, and global warming (avoid hurricane sandy).

Right. And its only getting worse. Make no mistake about it, they are also going down south, but their migration isn't limited to the south.

Bronxville had 3 home invasions in as many weeks.

I think Long Island is nicer than Westchester. Anywhere on the Port Washington line. Cold Spring Harbor is nice. There are many nice towns on the north shore. South shore not as much.

Interesting choices... why do you feel the Jersey & Long Island suburbs aren't as good?
