I am curious about the schools and overall life in City Island. Just going by the greatschools ranking, I see the public elementary school has a rating of 8. I also saw on another site that their extracurricular activities seem very lacking. I really don't know how up to date all this info is though. I would like to hear firsthand from some families how their experience was with the schools there and also with quality of life issues. (safety, low stress environment, parks, activities, community feeling, commute into midtown manhattan, shopping, and flooding )

Thank you!

Not sure how the schools are, but I have a very close friend who lives on CI and pays to send her kids to Catholic school in Westchester (the island's Catholic school shut down a few years ago).

The commute to midtown will be awful. You can either take the express bus, which runs on a much more limited schedule than routes in bigger/busier neighborhoods, or take the Bx29 to Pelham Bay Station and take the 6. There's also quite a bit of traffic onto the island on weekends starting in May.

I considered moving there for a time - I am close by in Country Club, and spend a lot of time there, but ultimately I decided it didn't work for me. If you worked in Westchester, might be better. Can't imagine commuting to Manhattan every day without losing your mind.
