thanks - I did find them on Google maps and plan to try them.

good to know they have sushi - there's none around here in this area -

someone mentioned Western Beef - it's really hard to say good things about them - they are the closest to my apt - I've been in there a few times but weekends are especially bad - you don't want to go then. I used to buy fish there but not any more, the people they have working in the fish dept are complete idiots.

I did talk to the mgr about getting some organic products and last time I went, they did seem to be trying to be more upscale but still have a ways to go - most people who shop there seem to be on EBT - they only want cheap, even if it's deadly !!

I will also check out the places mentioned in Yonkers - thanks!!!

hope this thread helps other people - the Bronx is getting better all the time, it's next in line for gentrification you know...

Curious what kind of experience you had at Garden Gourmet that would turn you off the store for good. I shop at the Inwood farmers market and Garden Gourmet every week. My only complaint about GG is that the cheese isn't handled properly and goes bad too quickly--I don't buy any cheese there that wasn't prepackaged. Otherwise, I love the selection and convenience. I sometimes do the week's shopping at Whole Foods in Yonkers instead, if I have to go up there for some other reason (trip to Home Depot, for instance).
