I'm a graduating political science major and was really wanting to get a non-profit job after graduating. Unfortunately, there aren't many non-profit jobs my current area. So, I'm going to have to move.
Is anyone familiar with with the job market for non-profit / activist jobs in NYC?
I am not personally involved in the non-sprofit sector and admittedly couldn't answer any specifics about it. I do have a handful of friends who work for non-profits (one in law, one in education, and one for a charitable organization). From my non-expert standpoint you would have a had time finding any city in the US with more non-profits based there. Everything from arts to science can be found here. The only caveat is that this is an exteremly expensive city to live in and non-profits don't exactly pay the big bucks.
Again, these are generalizations but hopefully it is some help. I can also tell you that everyone I know who has moved here has had a very quick and smooth job hunt regardless of their field.
Check out idealist.org for job listings. There are tons in NYC, but of course the low pay is even harder to deal with in NYC.
