If I live in NJ, mostly out of my home paid NJ income taxes on my W2 but paid unemployment via NY where do I file? I'd like to file in NJ the benefit is better. I live in Hudson county.... Any help is appreciated!

NYS you can file it online. Does NJ have a same system where you can file unemployment online, from there they can probably tell you whether you qualify or don't.

Obviously NJ because it's $600.00 after taxes every week versus NYC which is $400.

Those extra 200 dollars do come in handy.

UI benefits are paid by your employer. If your employer is based in NY state, then you file with NY. You can try filing in NJ, but in all likelihood, they will direct you to NY.

Yep,

If your W-2 shows UI/SDI for New York State then you must file in New York.

But the big complication that arises is how much did you EARN in New York? Your stipend depends on your best quarter's earnings in New York.

Can we assume your main source of income is from earning in NYS?
