so for now we are divided between staying in queens or buying in hartsdale. i still have a year to decide since i don't want to do anything until we get this first year of being retired under our belt and see what expenses look like.
What about living with kids and helping raising the grandchildren in suburbs while having a pied-a-terre in the city? I know people who have done it and suggested it. Seems reasonable if you get tired of commuting or want to make late night plans in the city.

That's crazy. In 2000 when my colleague rented his loft on the West side for $3500 I thought the renter was crazy. Same place is going for $6000 now. Never ceases to amaze me how much money lives here
