I don't know why any group has ownership, even temporarily, over a bit of land. If we went by that philosophy, our society would be even more segregated than it is now. A person should be able to live wherever he or she desires as long as she or he can afford to live there and obeys the law. Period.

It's a tendency of human nature to want to be among people like oneself, so it's understandable that people new to an area, especially if their language skills are weak, would want to live among paisani or landsmen. But no one should be considered an intruder because they are somehow different.

But its just a natural initial reaction for a lot of immigrants and you can't stop the masses. Thats why in the city, no one is surprised by anything

BronxPride is on a distinguished road
If your defense was a 20 y/o woman with an umbrella then it is obvious that the "kids" are playing pranks on you. I say Man-Up and get LOUD on them! Be prepared to get into a shouting fight with all of them and maybe throw a few punches to show them that your serious. Can you take them all on? The 20 y/o woman could, why can't you? You really need to walk around looking tuff or else this incident will repeat itself wherever you go, whether it's with teens or adults. Next time, definitely do call the police. If its a racial or sexual orientation issue then it is something serious. I'd rather go to the cops than not be able to walk around my own neighborhood.

In the meantime, before you call the cops or stand-up to these guys, I suggest you walk with friends. There's a group thing going on here. As soon as they saw the woman, they backed off. Walk with your roomies, if anything you 3 can fight the them.

Indeed so! In some neighborhoods, you just have to show a little common sense about walking around.
