Logistics of Moving In
My wife and I will be moving to Queen (not exactly sure where) in the end of April.
So my questions has to do with moving in. Does anyone that moved recently into the city with a large moving truck have any suggestions?
Were there any difficulties with parking, and/or blocking traffic? Would I need any permits from the local police pricinct to move in?
I've only moved around with my small pickup and I am just looking for any insights into moving with a large truck.
Thanks

I don't think you need permission from the police. but be careful with large trucks. Make sure the driver doesn't do something like accidentally scratch someone else's car. It happened to me on move- in day. The driver of the truck parked too close to my neighbor's Jaguar, scratched it, and when my new neighbor discovered the scratch the driver was getting pizza down the street. the neighbor screamed at me, made me confront the driver, he called the police, the police came, (by this time the driver came back from the pizzeria) nothing happened except for a scene of about 15 people rapping to the cops, no idea where they came from. the girlfriend of the guy apologized to me for his screaming, we got along well after that

So double parking for an hour or so shouldn't rouse the police's attention?
And has anyone used the 'pods' for moving or storage. This is when the truck drops off a steel box the size of one parking spot while you unload. Is it possible to do this in a high density area?

Find out the address you will be living in Queens and find out the covering precinct, Call the pct and ask about the pods

another possibility is to move in on a day when street cleaning has just finished. On my street, street cleaning is over at 10 am on wed on one side and 10am thurs on the other. this morning at about 9:45am I noticed that there was a large truck parked outside my building with all the parking space in the world (as that side of the street had been cleared of all cars). It was a truck that was removing an old kitchen (demolition) from a first fl apt that is getting a new kitchen. Coincidence that the kitchen was being removed at 9:45am on a day that street cleaning was over at 10am? I think not.
when I moved in here my realtor suggested I schedule my move for one of these dates/times as well. I ended up not doing that as the place that moved me seemed perfectly comfortable double parking for as long as it took - and they had three guys in the truck so one guy could stay with the truck the whole time.
I had no problems with this move - they guys were great. place is called the Moving Man (I believe) located somewhere in upper manhattan if you need a local place (I don't know how often they do out of state moves).

Thanks for all the info.
It looks like I will be using a full servic moving company after all so I'm not to worried any more. I'll just let them deal with it.
