This would be my favorite place. It is in the East Village.
I heard of a few in DUMBO that are real holes in the wall that I may try too...

I always liked Gimmee Coffee--there are some Manhattan locations now, since it started in Williamsburg about 10 + years back. I do love Stumptown Roasters as well. Many have mentioned Toby's Estate, but that place is outrageously pricey--it's ridiculous, pretentious and tiny cups of coffee. Meh, is what I say. If it were amazing, I'd go for it, but just average.

Brooklyn Roasting Company just opened a place on 23rd btwn 5th and 6th--it's good stuff, so far. Honestly, the best cup of coffee near my office in Flatiron is Illy, served by *gasp* Argo Tea LOL.

NYC is such a large area. You would do yourself well finding an old fashioned Greek diner. There are a few around University Place in the village...near Con Edison and Eatly...and the farmers market. Just good old diners.

I also love Illy, whenever I can find it.

It shows how far down the conformity ladder we have come. It used to be a good time was had in a BAR...now it's coffee and a laptop, so that we can continue working like good obedient proles so the MAN can continue earning his shekels.

When the Italians and French congregate it is definitely not COFFEE they are drinking by the liter.

They have more sense than dimwitted Americans in Starbucks.
