So why did the mayor and police commissioner immediately say the officer was wrong when he shot the emotionally disturbed woman swinging a bat at him? Yeah I know he had a stun gun but if a cop isn't given the benefit of a doubt in that situation you can bet a civilian shooting someone with a bat would be arrested.

The reason this was a big deal was because the police knew this was an EDP, and there are proper ways to handle this i.e. non-lethal force, paramedics, crisis counseling etc... This cop thinks he's in the ghetto version of westworld and can just blast anyone.
I once had to call EMS on someone in a catatonic state on a home visit, EMS came and the guy lunged at the EMT. The police came and were able to talk him down, administer a tranquilizer, and then EMS took him to CPEP. THAT is the proper procedure, not just blasting away at people because your trigger happy.
I am far-left, but I cannot stand these liberal New York democrats and their gun policies. We need the right to bear arms in New York City again. The only reason these gun control laws exist is because the racist AmeriKKKan government is afraid of people of color being armed and knowing their rights. That's why they don't let people in the city have guns. Only the whites in the country are allowed the right to bear arms. Gun control is a form of Jim Crow.

You do realize that the police aren't one "horde mind" and one cop may not know what others do correct? Do you have information that says Sgt Barry was at this house before? Furthermore, how does your leftist vision account for the fact that this yahoo Wild West gunslinger actually DID talk her into dropping the scissors she was threatening them with prior to her DECISION to re-arm herself and ATTACK him with a bat? Well your liberal masters are the KKK then because it sure as hell isn't the Right and the NRA pushing gun control on urban centers. On the contrary, the NRA pushed both recent major SCOTUS cases which resulted in the take down of DC and Chicago gun laws, one being McDonald who was a black man (RIP sir!).
