Internship in NY (from Germany)
Hey guys,
I'm from Germany and Im curious about Internships in New York, since we are also able to do these in foreign countries and since I want to live in NY one day I decided to look for an internship there. What I need is a little bit of guidance of how to first of all get things started. Im really clueless of where to look. Ive googled for a while now and found some sites as well, I will check them out but I just want to know if anybody has any good knowledge about these things? Another problem is that it should offer to pay for the flight and a place to stay since I really couldnt finance that. For example I found an agency that finance these. I still have to check it out though.
Oh and I fluently speak english and I was born in the states, wich makes me an americna citzen, so theres no problem with that.

Internships are mostly unpaid. YOU supply your own housing, transportation and living expenses.

These days you can find even paid internships. Even though it's not a lot. But it's a good experience.
@Hiro: First of all, you need to get a visa. So you can do the internship legally. Call the american consulat and tell them your plan. They'll help and you can go from there. Also because of the fact that you won't earn enough money to finance a living in NYC you need to have a certain amount on savings to start off with. How long you planning to do the internship??? I guess for 6 months???

He doesn't need a visa: he's an American citizen, as he said in his post! However he DOES need a US passport. You can get that through your consulate.
Please ensure that you have a place to stay before you get here! Not having one can be disastrous. And, understand, that healthcare here is NOT paid for by the government. It's expensive!

You don't need an internship- - - you need a SPONSOR.
You could get a work Visa for the US if the company that hires you will sponsor you, meaning they pretty much guarantee you a job for a period of time, I think it's 2 years, and they help you assimilate into NYC housing, etc...
Be prepared for expensive living though; unless you earn at least $50K a year, you'll be hard pressed to live anywhere decent, eat, pay the utilities and have money for getting around and having somewhat of a life.
Check the New York Craigslist for possible jobs:

Hey there thanks for the many replies.
Ill try some more research tomorrow including the things you said and then Ill come back if I have further questions.
What I can say now is that my internship is only 1 month. I know its not worth the time probably but I really want to move to the states next year and I would like to use that oppertunity to use that internship as a kind of test
Anyways, yes my Passport is still valid, I renewed it a couple of months ago at the american consulate.
