I was just contacted by my favorite DJ and he said that I am on his guest list for their show in NYC. It will be at the Marquee on Aug 8. Its kind of last minute so my buddy and I are scrambling to find a decent place in the city to stay. We will be driving from Columbus, OH so price is going to be a big factor. He is only comfortable paying 75 each per night. We will be there two nights so we are looking for 150 per night. Aug 7-9. Any suggestions? Needing to stay in Manhattan

Suggestion No. 1: Park the car at a garage in Jersey City or Hoboken and take the PATH train into Manhattan. You will save big over the hotel nightly parking charges and required tips for the valet parking attendant. Suggestion No. 2: Put in bids at PriceLine or Hot Wire for the dates that you want. Suggestion No. 3: Try AirBnB and BedandBreakfast.com.

Hotel Pennsylvannia, although I wouldn't sleep under the sheets. Or in the bed for that matter.

PickWick Hotel closed down and now it is under new ownership and is called The Pod Hotel.
Pod 51 Hotel
230 East 51st St
New York, NY 10022

It should be around 160 dollars per night.

Hotel Pennsylvania is better then that but it will cost around 190 dollars per night.

I always stayed near Newark Airport for 70 to 90 dollars per night and commuted to NYC by Train.

Check out Hotels.com. You'll get quotes for the cheapest hotels there, as opposed to just the cheaper brand name hotels that some sites provide.

Check Lower Manhattan as you can sometimes get better deals in the Financial District, especially if using a site like Hotwire.com

IF your budget is $150 per night I'd check airbnb.com I know you said Manhattan but is it a big deal if it's in Brooklyn within a few metro stops of Manhattan? You could get a nice place in Brooklyn for less than $150 p/night.
