You'd probably only save 10 minutes off your commute to midtown with Woodside & Elmhurst vs. Jackson Heights. The differences in commutes are such that it's effectively irrelevant.

20 mins/day...I'd take it. I'm not knocking Jackson Heights, just arguing against someone that posted that only Jackson Heights would be spared against a downturn. Jackson Heights is kind of a one way neighborhood, the further east or west you go, the closer to nowhere you're headed. Where as is Woodside and Elmhurst you can walk in multiple directions.

G-Dale I'm confused: directly west of Jackson Heights is... Woodside. So Woodside is better because it's not neighbors with itself?

And I don't see how Elmhurst is a faster commute to midtown when (a) it's 1 or 2 stops further out on the R and (b) Jackson Heights has the express E and F in addition to the 7, M and R.

I'm also confused by what you said. Yes, Woodside is west of Jackson Heights. And west of that is Sunnyside. So?

Elmhurst has access to all the same train stops as Jackson Heights, and more. Woodside and Elmhurst are also older communities. They are also more geographically centered.
