Are the CUNY's reputable? (New York, York: campus, appointed, offer)

I was wondering if New Yorkers thought the CUNY's were reputable. Would you say a freshman out of state person coming to a CUNY would be disappointed? I'm from NJ and the thought of going to school in the city seems like it would be a lot of fun and a great experience. Which CUNY school do you all think is best?

They used to be much, MUCH better. Honestly, Rutgers gives you more bang for the buck than CUNY. Since open admissions was put inot place, the entire CUNY system has gone downhill.

I'll suggest you visit College Board and look up any school you're considering attending. The site will give you all kinds of information.

For example:

The middle 50% of CUNY/City College applicants had SAT math scores between 430-550, and reading scores between 420-570; and the largest proportion (29%) of applicants had GPAs between 2.5-2.99.

The middle 50% of CUNY/Brooklyn College applicants had SAT math scores between 490-580, and reading scores between 450-560. Here again, the largest proportion of applicants had GPAs between 2.5-2.99.

The middle 50% of CUNY/Hunter College applicants had SAT math scores between 490-560, and reading scores between 480-550; and 32% of applicants had GPAs between 2.5-2.99.

Soooooo -- are the CUNY schools reputable? Of course. Are they well-respected and academically rigorous? Meh .....

Isn't Baruch the best of the bunch? Hunter and Queens College also seem pretty good.

Nationally though Viral is right. For the money I think you'd do better at Rutgers or any other reputable state school (Penn State, Binghampton, U. Delaware, etc).

It depends on the school and the program. As Mead already mentioned, Baruch, Queens and Hunter are pretty good.

I got a masters' in education from CCNY. It was more challenging than I expected, but there was a point where they were going to lose their ability to certify teachers because so many of their undergrads were failing the certification exams. As a result of that, they really tried to improve the program.

Baruch is the best CUNY school..its also the hardest to which one can be admitted, but that isn't saying much. They have the cleanest/newest campus of any CUNY I've seen so I'd go with that one if you're thinking of going to a CUNY. And I do believe they offer a computer science major. You're in luck because Baruch is by 23rd St and Lexington and I know you can take the NJ Path and get off at either 23rd or at Penn Station..not too bad of a commute. Good luck.
