I'm going over some options with my aunt as far as housing is concerned but I don't want her living in a dangerous development. Are there any safe developments? Are you even able to choose which one you want to live in?

The only one I'm a little familiar with is Pomonok Houses on Kissena Blvd in Flushing and it appeared pretty safe about 15 years ago but I'm not sure how it is now.

I've been to the Jacob Riis houses in the East Village and they didn't seem dangerous to me

But I have to imagine that there's a longer waiting list for the more desirable developments

I agree with this list when it comes to Queens. I would also add Pomonok houses. Its so calm and has a totally different vibe than any of the projects in all of NYC to me.

Most the houses below 96th east or west of Manhattan are pretty good. The L.E.S. can still be pretty sketchy though.

By LES are you referring to the Jacob Riis houses? I was there and it felt pretty tame to me

Oh so Pomonok is still like that? I'll have to check that area out again then. That's how I remembered it as well, a calm area. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Are there any more?

Passed thru Pomonok 2 months ago in the daytime...very quiet.

You cannot choose developments....Only the borough. I can imagine the nicer developments have longer waits. For Queens, they will probably offer the worst....Queensbridge, Far roackaway, south jamaica.

I used to work near Pomonock about 10 years ago (in Queens).
It almost looked and felt (to me) like a moderate income development - like Stuyvesant Town, for example - rather than NYCHA housing.
Felt peaceful and calm.

Not that there isn't or wasn't some gang activity there (there was even then). But it wasn't infested with it the way some projects are.

Not sure what Pomonock is like now, though - haven't been there in 10 years.
