We had the reverse happen one too. We turned a corner to see a parked car with all kinds of damage to it and steam coming out of the engine still since it was hit in the left front.
I said to my wife this looks like it just happened but it is strange no one is around taking each others info.

Well about a week later i get a letter from my insurer that a witness gave my plate number as being involved in a hit and run.

Someone must have seen us by the car and assumed i did it.

So both company adjusters made a joint call to my office to inspect my car for damage or body work.

Luckily i had none so i was ruled out . Good thing i never had body work.

Sure I agree that he has a very tough case that most likely isn't worth pursuing, however "opinions" such as no-fault insurance applies to personal property, or that if someone doesn't have full coverage on their car, that they must feel it is valueless, or that your homeowner's policy is going to come to the rescue when your $10,000 engagement ring is stolen, are all just terrible misinformation that are blatantly wrong.
