Albanians are a little bit different. A lot of the newer arrivals in my area have trouble with English. The culture is really different, but most of them seem to be pretty good at adapting. Once they have children here they grow no different then other white people.

Jrock I do not see why you are cutting 10 words from a quote of mine from a DIFFERENT thread with a completely different topic, furthermore if you read the rest of the comment it would be self-explanatory.
I take it you are refusing to answer my questio as to what is the point of bringing up the fact that the area is becoming more Hispanic/Black in response toTumbler's comments about gangs. Please explain...if not...you can also indicate you do not want to explain.

Alot of these posters have sinister motives when they post these scary stories...it isn't to "advise" you or "keep you safe"...it is to keep their rent cheap and keep white people out. Okay..... this quote is from this thread go back one page. My point is that no on is trying to scare white people away from pelham parkway. Up until very recently (last 10 years) much of the area in question (pelham parkway) had a sizable caucasian population and still does, but the general trend is towards hispanic, black and west indian. No one is trying to keep whitey out this area, because the people with the deepest roots in the area are white.
This has nothing to do with gangs. But the truth is that if you read the crime blotters the majority of violent crime in pelham parkway takes place as you get closer to white plains road and boston post. I was simply agreeing with the other poster that it doesn't feel very safe at night on white plains road

Long Island City, Queens
I live in the new Avalon Riverview North apts. Everyone says the neighborhood is up and coming, but the construction is more on new residential buildings than actual businesses.
Pros
- close to Grand Central (~ 5 min from the 7 subway on Vernon-Jackson)
- quiet, no city traffic noise
- nice view of Manhattan
Cons
- not enough nearby restaurants or convenient stores/supermarkets
- taxis are hard to come by
- quiet neighborhood doesn't offer safety in numbers as Manhattan does
- very windy since it's close to the East River

Jrock...the idea that people are trying to keep white people out does not apply in white areas...it applies to areas that are predominantly people of color. But agree with the rest of your post otherwise.

East Village, 14th st.
Pros:
1. The Knitting Factory is moving here.
2. Still plenty of interesting live music venues and fun bars.
3. Gruppo Pizza.
4. Walking distance to everything.
5. The "projects" intimidate the yuppies and thus the area is still "dangerous" (and quite pleasant due to the absence of yuppies).
6. Still a few book stores around.
7. NY Public library has a couple of branches here.
8. Lots of churches.
9. Restaurants.
Cons:
1. Dirt
2. Noise
wait, #1 and 2 are all of New York City...
3. People don't pick up after their dogs.
4. Oddly, the traffic cops and trash police nail people from my building but not the pigs who let their dogs crap all over the place.

Can anyone else add something about lower east side, greenwich village, union square and gramacy? How do you go to a park to exercise from those places? That would be helpful. Thanks.

Rockland County
Pros
1. Quiet, suburban area

Cons
1. Two-hour commute
2. Property taxes insane
3. Could be more pedestrian-friendly, enough without destroying suburban fabric.
