Hey everyone,

I am planning a trip to NYC for some training (I work In Security), and was wondering what would be a decent choice for a hotel in the City?? I would prefer in Manhattan, but will consider all parts of the City, and even Northern New Jersey. I would be willing to spend about 140-200 per night, max.

Thanks!!!

Sean

You could definitely find something in Long Island City, Queens which just across the East River from Midtown Manhattan with 24/7 subway access.

I use hotwire when traveling. You pick the area and the star rating of the hotel. Once you pay they will pick the hotel for you for up to 60% off its rate. It's worked well for me for many years. I live in NYC but have gotten 4-5 star hotels here for as cheap as $86/night using hotwire.

Waterfront area of Jersey City could get you something in that range. Commute is a breeze.

Wrong. Hotels in LIC start at $200/night.

How many nights, and what dates are you thinking about? The closer it is to a major holiday the more likely everything is going to be booked. In which case you might want to think about using AirBNB instead.

Just look through Expedia and don't book anything under 3 stars.

For the most part you are pretty much right, but it could depend on the dates and also whether OP is willing to book one of the crappier places in that area. I just checked some random dates in Oct-Nov and several came up under $200. La Quinta on Queens Blvd near Sunnyside came up at $160/night. I don't think it's that nice of a place but maybe it could be an option for someone on a budget.

Thanks Everyone. I am still trying to nail down the dates of the trip, but I am starting the homework process early. More than likely early 2016 for the trip.
