Where are they all coming from? Riding the trains in the 70's and 80's, i'd see rats on the tracks coming out of the tunnels...but on the train? Retrieving food and walking it down the stairs like a regular person that just went to the grocery store??

wtffff
Rodents on subway trains and buses are because quite frankly more and more people are just pigs and deadly common. On either you see them not just munching a bag of chips but eating an entire Styrofoam takeaway meal, it really is disgusting. Often when done they don't take the empty container but shove it under seat. Am not talking about tourists either, but what appear to be New Yorkers that should know better. I've seen mothers get on the #6 train and bust out with entire McDonald's take away for their several children whipping the food out as if it were a picnic grounds.
As for the subway in general things aren't much better. People just throw trash onto the tracks/platforms. That and or the containers are full. Couple this with a cutback in cleaning and you have rodent problems. Even when cleaning does take place recent reports have come to light that the refuse rooms where trash is held until collecting trains arrive are often infested with rodents.
This just be one of the most "New York City" things you'll ever see.
While not down a flight of subway steps sadly have seen rats with huge bits of food on too many occasions. Once watched from my window as a rat across the street from our building was dragging a brown paper (lunch) bag.
But then again being the jaded New Yorkers we are rats both in and out of the subway aren't exactly news.
Wonder if he ever figured out how to get that pizza down that little hole? Or maybe he and his family ate out?
