Considering it is the holiday season (X-Mas/NYE), how about a NYC nightlife mega thread? City data often comes up as a search result for anything city related, this will be a service to both those visiting or locals. I am interested in this subject myself. We are living in the city that never sleeps, a big draw here is our entertainment.
Be sure to include information on music genre, establishment type, difficulty at the door, price, drinks, scene/clientele (age, economic standing, cultural makeup), proximity to other nightlife, hours open. If you had a good experience at a place lets hear about it. Same with bad.
Some categories:
Exclusive, Upscale, Outdoor, Rooftop, Dance Club, Neighborhood Hangout (local spot), Poetry Lounge, College Bar, Dive Bar, After Hours, Happy Hour Bar, Brew Pub, Pool Bar, Wine Bar, Beer Garden, Martini Bar, Irish Pub, Sports Bar, Pools, Restaurant Bars, Hotel Bars, Comedy Club, Piano Bar, Hookah, BYOB, Illegal (via message), Hidden.
Multifloor/room, Single Floor/Room, Outdoor Concert, Indoor Concert, Rooftop, Balcony, Party Boat/Bus, Street, Bar/Pub Crawl.
The city has varied nightlife from limit to limit, and even across the metro area (Jersey City/Hoboken for example).
From my experience the East Village has the most bars in NYC. This heavy bar concentration exist primarily between E Houston St and E 14th Street/3rd Ave to Ave C. There are also heavy concentrations of Bars in the Lower East Side in the vicinity of Ludlow and Stanton Streets; the Greenwich Village around Bleeker Street south of Washington Sq Park. Other areas include the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, SoHo/NoHo, West Village, Williamsburg, Downtown Brooklyn, Astoria, Jackson Heights, Long Island City, and of course Midtown (Including Times Square Area).
Also in my experience if you want clubs, go West when it comes to Manhattan. Chelsea, the West Village, Hells Kitchen and of course the Meatpacking District are known for clubbing.
Does strip clubs count too? I usually go to strip clubs after I get my tax returns.
Strip clubs are fine but lets not let that dominate. I hope to focus on Bars/Clubs/Lounges. I would like to see reviews, tips, advice, any information at all. This will be a major resource.

I like Al's Mr. Wedge gentlemens club on Hunts Point Ave. They have gone into a new direction with new rules that any girl working there must have,
GOOD HYGIENE, meet the weight requirement of 160, be ATTRACTIVE and cannot be older than 39 and practice PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR and CONDUCT in the workplace.
Ive been to so many night spots here in NYC as well as strip clubs, bars, lounges, rooftop spots, pubs, bars and grills etc. Being in my twenties and single gives me the oppurtnity to check out hip, cool and even underated places of entertainment and nightlife. Ive been to different spots in four of the five boroughs, Staten Island is the only borough where I never got a chance to experience nightlife in that area. Im very incognito when I go out and tend to fit into different crowds night spots except for LGBT. I can easily shave my head and hang out with some Guidos at a place like the LOT. OR put on a plaid shirt and hang out with some Transplants in the East Village spots like a Bulgarian Hookah spot were I met two out of town white chicks who recently moved to NYC and thier Niave level was not high compared to most Transplants who live extensivly in this city. Get a nice caeser put on some tight jeans and a truck drivers hat Dominican style and go to Hispanic clubs in Washington Heights and West Bronx like El Morroco or Bamboo. Preferbly I prefer a spot that plays mixed music and also I prefer a place that has alot of out of town chicks especially white ones. All I can say the orginial NYC club experience has died and it mostly cates to immigrants like in places like Queens, West Bronx and Washington Heights and Yuppie/Transplant spots of Manhattan, West Brooklyn and Astoria Queens. If you wanna enjoy an experience similar to old school NYC clubbing my best bet is to check out Las Vegas which I have been to or from word of mouth Miami.
