World Ice Arena in FMCP in Queens is no requiring you give them your address and your driver's License/ ID number all on a form that you have to sign just to skate now.

What is going on? Is this happening at all public recreation facilities? The rink is run privately but is on public grounds so has to obey what the parks and recreation tells them to. I am guessing the city is forcing their hand on this, but for what reason.

Have you been to any other places that are requiring this? I find this to be bogus. I went there for stick and puck today, and handed me a form and I had to write down my name, age, DOB, address, phone, and driver's license/ID #. Just to skate around.

I don't see what's the problem with this. I'm sure it either has to do with security (terrorists or shooters) or liability (if there's an accident). Try looking at it from the other way around. If they have security measures, you are most likely safer than if they didn't. In any case, why don't you ask them what's the reason, or call the Parks Department and ask?

If you think the reasoning is stupid, then don't skate there.

Of all things to get up in arms about, I don't see this as being a good one.

Plus you have to write down the DL# and your home address in addition to showing them the license. You sign the paper and now they have that info on record about you. Why do they need that to skate now?

Why wasn't this implemented now all of sudden? What is different now then before? Is there really a new terrorist threat of something?

I think what happened was someone got hurt in either a hockey fight, or just an accident and is now suing either the Mngmt or the city. At the sister rink City Ice Pavilion over in LIC, fights happen in the adult league sometimes. I heard one guy tried to step on someone while wearing those sharp skates, and tried to hit someone with the helmet as bludgeoning weapon.

Oh I want to mention, NYPD and FDNY now have teams at Chelsea Piers Sky Rink. You wanna see some fireworks, come on Thursday night. Check schedule first to see if they playing each other.

I actually went ahead today and sign their little form. The NYC ID cards will not get you in. You need their vouchers. I got one specifically for World Ice.

I have been told this will be implemented most likely at other facilities around the city private or not. And you need to have their voucher for each place. They are not universal.

correct , you have to sign up for all the memberships you want to use .

we went through the process today at grand army plaza . we spent the day doing a photo-shoot in the area.

it takes 2-3 weeks now after going in person to actually get the cards mailed to you .

nyc resident , basically a drivers license showing a nyc address will do it or a nyc handgun license . otherwise you need a combo of different things .
