Big problem with NYC is that its all about competition, and is a huge giant rat race. NYC can make one sure bitter about themselves and or bitter about others. I'm seriously thinking about hosting seminars in the countries colleges and universities to not move to NYC after college.

I hate to beat this drum again, but I think the cost of living in NYC, along with the rat race and competition really takes a toll on people. Very few people I know in NY are living a comfortable life. It's a constant grind to make ends meet and that type of lifestyle can drag you down quick. It's not even a matter of people living beyond their means, although some people do, but for the most part it's simply the cost of living. You got city employees living out of their cars for god's sake!! Very few things in life can drag you down more than money problems. And I'm talking about real money problems, like 'how am i going to pay the rent this month?' not 'how can i cop the new Jordans'. It goes for both low-income people as well as high-income people. My brother's boss gave him a sob story about not being able to keep his boat this past summer because the company decided to cut back on bonuses!! Those aren't real money problems... Try talking to folks whose landlord is knocking on the door and they have 2 kids sleeping in their 1-bedroom apartment. That will make you unhappy real quick!!

Perhaps someone should repost the above comments on the thread launched by people "moving to the Brooklyn area" - with two small children.

They have visited ... twice, and feel ready to move.
