Living in manhattan [lower east side] can be a pain sometimes...

My nabe has the standard mon/thur tue/fri alternate side and just noticed movie shoot placards on lightpoles and trees for cars to be moved by Tuesday at 8pm if its not moved the city moves it to another block [usually a meter] and slaps a sticker on it so its not ticketed by parking enforcement but its only good for two days.

Being a nite owl, I usually do my alternate side shuffle at night and parked on friday morning at 1:30am on a mon/thur spot and there were no notifications for a movie shoot on the block, I passed by the car saturday afternoon to pick up a cable for my cellfone and there was nothing so me and most others would think ''yay, don't need to worry until friday morning or move it on thursday to be safe for friday''... [ASP is cancelled mon/tue for religious holidays]
Well, I just went to drop off some supplies to my car and there are movie shoots notifications on that block and two other adjoining blocks for cars to be moved by tuesday 8pm, a neighbor of mine said he saw someone putting up the signs on Sunday late morning and confronted them about it and basically was told 'we don't give a f*ck'...
I'm sure there are people who parked and maybe went out of town thinking they are good until friday

Shouldn't movie companies give more of a warning when they pull crap like this??

This happened to me once, I parked when ASP was cancelled and went back to find my car on an avenue, luckily no ticket. I can't even imagine what happens if your car is damaged or those that use parking brakes & have locking hubs on their wheels

It happened to me once in Williamsburg. Also it was hard to find my car since the police were not informed where the cars had been moved. In my current neighborhood in Queens, notices were just put up the night before about some kind of parking restriction, and same thing, cars got towed, police had no idea where. It's like you have to hear it through the grape vine to know what block to look on for your towed car.

This has been going on for years and I suspect it's not going to change. Also I think the rule is they only have to give you 24 hours of notice (which of course seems unfair to the car owners). Check the nyc.gov parking website.

If you parking you car on the street you really should be checking on it everyday or at least every other day. Not park it one night and come back days or a week later.
Sadly for you movies have been shooting in NY long before you and will continue long after you you just have to learn to live with it.
