I disagree with that also, while there are a lot of religious people, the average person probably does not attend services on a regular basis. I live right outside of NYC and hardly anyone I know my age goes to Church.

There are some people like that but I don't think the majority are. Among younger people especially, interracial relationships and friendships are very common.

i think it partially comes down to your neighborhood. but i do think for a big city new york is pretty religious. i regularly see people reading the bible on the subway. the churches in my neighborhood are extremely active and busy. there is lots of proselytizing going on in the subway for example. (those scientology stands are everywhere.) lots of door to door proselytizing in my neighborhood too.

i don't think how common interracial friendships and relationships are negates what i said.

This is funny. I have a Middle Eastern friend who looks Latino at times! He is 100% Arab, speaks with a British/American accent, yet when he visits NYC people always are saying "¡hola!" to him. (Maybe people are mistaking him for Colombian since there are many Colombians with mixed Arab ancestry). So far no stops by the police.

should be some kind of high quality construction enforcement. no one can construct a building unless its well built, earthquake proofed, and apartments sound proofed

I agree with you on this. My husband or I if we took our salaries as stand alone, both make too much to qualify for those apartments.

However even following the 40x rule, the way rents are going neither of us could afford an apartment even 1/2 a mile north of where we are now. And let's be serious about that 40x rule. When taxes eat 30-35% of your salary, after taxes that means it takes you 3 weeks worth of your take home salary just to pay rent.

Because going from Brooklyn to Staten Island is a PITA by public transportation unless you live in Bay Ridge.

I have no desire to take a 2-3 hour trip to visit family in Staten Island by public transportation when I can drive and be there in 30 minutes (on a good day anyway).

No, I'm not.

Cops need a legal reason to perform searches. They simply cannot perform searches on citizens at will.

Ok, I know this an unpopular opinion board and I just wanted to point out that everything you just said in here whether it's a misconception or just outright false is in fact solely opinion and not based on any facts whatsoever. Newspaper headlines will highlight isolated surges in crime but there is no overall trend of crime going up due to the lack of stop and frisk. Crime actually went down when they pulled back on it in the last year of the Bloomberg administration. And yes, numbers don't lie (unless you're talking about padded comstat numbers); crime has been down overall this year. And also, having the first mayor in 20 some odd years to even acknowledge minorities does not mean he's trying to please every single race and religion in NYC. OMG, what a "terrible mayor" free pre-K, inclusionary zoning, settled beefs with most the city unions and even hired more cops this year...complete failure indeed! I guess those are all unpopular facts.

Point is, there's no proof stop and frisk actually does anything to stop the flow of guns into the city. It's like plugging leaks in a sinking ship, you have to stop the flow of guns coming in from other regions. And if someone wants to shoot you or me in the face trust me, stop and frisk will not stop a premeditated, planned murder. What true gunman would leave himself vulnerable to a random search?
