Usually officers of the law develop drinking habits on the job, but I see you're already one step ahead of the pack. On a more serious note, if you have to ask, you probably have a problem.

It would be lie to say anyone who works for PD doesn't drink; I think it's "occasionally" fine to sip on a cocktail or beer. BUT if drinking is a problem for you and it clearly comes up in your background checks (i.e. DUI, DWI, DWUI, etc) then you may have an issue getting cleared. And not to sound like a party pooper but too many people lose their lives from those kind of incidents. If "drinking" is an issue, you should focus on getting better (and I don't mean to assume but from your question, that's the assumption I get).

I would assume that most NYC cops drink. Drinking and sports goes with the Alpha Male package.
