I doubt that the residents have benefitted by the opening of Whole Foods, Fairway, Starbucks, and bank branches all over the neighborhood, the typical amenities of gentrification.
Closing a Dollar Store to open a Starbucks is NOT an improvement for the poor and elderly (Stanley Isaac Houses is largely senior citizens...even houses a senior center.)
Wonderful pizzeria with $8 lasagna large enough to feed 3 adults across the street (at 94th) was driven out of business.
Yes and what is your point? Beggars can't be choosers. If they dont like living in a nice neighborhood hit the road moochers. Do you these people have any pride or self respect?
It is really mind boggling people are receiving subsidized housing and complaining about the neighborhood getting better. They are lucky that the City doesnt put every housing project on an island away from everyone else.

Better tends to mean higher property values in the real world. It wasn't a rant against the poor, it was a rant against poor people who think the world owes them something.

Right ... do volunteer to identify the "problem" people - any time.
Then, be sure to identify those bankers and related folk who are absolutely sure that the world owes them everything and then some.
I already identified the problem, and I don't know what bankers have to do with people receiving a hand in public assitance and complaining about it that is another topic, it's pathetic.
Everything is all the rich man fault's, Its the rich man fault that poor people have less IQ's than middle-class people. It's the rich mans fault all of the crime that goes on in impoverished neighborhoods as well.
I also have no sympathy for this, and I don't like the fact that $250,000 of public funds were used for this study. Yes, it's obvious that for a poor person a cheap pizza joint or an inexpensive dollar store is going to be more useful than a Starbucks. But...so what. The city is changing all the time.
I would love to live on the UES or Chelsea versus my non-gentrified neighborhood in Queens, but I pay for my own housing and got what I could afford.
