Default Seeking opinion about a past apt search

Hi. This is a question I have never asked anyone and always forget to so here it is.

back in the spring of 2005 i had to vacate my old apartment which i was renting in a co-op building because the management was selling all the units

One of the apt searches i went on included a really nice studio on 259th street and Broadway (I call the area Woodlawn II !), i mean really nice with a big separate kitchen. halls had a nice cool green carpeting with stucco white walls. i really wanted this apt and it was renting for only $775. the only problem was that the elevator was broken(said it would be fixed soon) so i had to walk up 6 flights of stairs with the agent

i am caucasian and the agent was black. as we were walking up the stairs i made a comment to him along the lines of "last time i did this(walking up the stairs) was during the blackout". he kind of laughed

i then felt i made an unconscious racial slip which offended him. he never called me back(i did mention something negative in my credit which they might see) but he was cool when he showed me the place. the fact was 100% that I did indeed have to walk up 6 flights of stairs in my old place during the '03 blackout because the elevator was not working. anyway i'm not a prejudiced person at all. i work with the less fortunate and have been for 17 years.
am i feeling too guilty for nothing? was it wrong to use the word blackout--should i instead have used power failure or the like?

please respond--dying for opinions

thinks

I can't imagine that anyone would take that out context. Brokers are flaky and I'd say at least 1/3 of the ones I have dealt with have not called me back for scheduled apartment viewings, letting me know approval status, etc. I've had to chase down virtually every broker, landlord, super I've dealt with. I'm sure anyone with half a brain knows that a blackout is not a racial epithet.

You didn't do anything wrong. There are a hundred other reasons why you might not have gotten the apartment or why this guy didn't call you back. Don't think about it any more!

I doubt I'm in anyway qualified to be speaking about this, but I hope no one would take offense to the use of the word "blackout."

Honestly rlrl your posts are always really interesting, but I think you seriously overanalyze everything. Just chill, you seem like a really nice person. You should focus on getting a wife/girlfriend, and I think you'll be set

EDIT: rlrl, I've got a question for you. Have you ever been to a restaurant in North Riverdale called "Park Place?" According to google its right on Mosholu Ave, but I can't place it. Is it any good? I read on chowhound.com that the owner of this place is opening up a restaurant in Woodlawn (I presume he bought out the place where the City Line diner used to be).

I know, it's the way i was raised. it gets hard to change though I've come a long way

The Park Place rest has been there for at least 15 years but I've never been in there. With all the congestion and double parking it gets harder to know it's even there. It's between Post rd and Broadway. The Cornyn's Coach rest closed last year, maybe that's the place he bought

Sometimes I eat breakfast at the Cozy Corner rest on McLean Avenue before work--their breakfasts are really good

You like the Kozy Corner? Nice place, its about a 5 minute walk from where I am living. If you want the real Irish experience you should go to the Country Kitchen, which is about 2-3 blocks down from the Kozy Corner. Irish Coffee Shop is also nice, but the Country Kitchen is open 24/7, so its quite popular.

Here's the post I was talking about on Chowhound: Riverdale Restaurants - Outer Boroughs - Chowhound . The comment about Woodlawn is all the way at the bottom. Check out the link, maybe you could find something interesting in your area of North Riverdale. I am curious about the BBQ restaurant in Riverdale on Mosholu. I have read a lot of good reviews about the place on the internet. I think I will have to check it out eventually.

I have to try the country kitchen. I like 24 hour places and one doesn't really find too many of them. I've eaten at many of the places reviewed on the chowhound you mention but not the barbecue pit yet. I agree with many posters there that while restaurants are plentiful in riverdale, the general concensus is that it's all pretty mediocre.

Well I think if you compare Riverdale against Manhattan of course its going to come out seeming liike its mediocre at best. However if you compare Riverdale to just about anywhere else in the Bronx (sans perhaps Arthur Ave) its basically a Bronx foodie paradise.
