Unless it is a housing court experienced lawyer they are not qualified.

Going to attend the MCH housing clinic this week. They had said they would be able to give me the correct calculations while looking over the leases to see if there is anything out of order.

The MCH clinic said my legal rent was more than what it should be. Also, that the missing tenant from the rental history report is illegal. They advised I bring the rental history report to them first to let them "explain" and possibly negotiate. Then if there's no resolution I could file a claim for overcharge. I asked my building management for a meeting today since they have been not responding to my emails. First they said no further changes in the renewal rates but were still working with higher management to see if anything could be done. About an hour later another email and they reduced the 1 year renewal rate by half. But, they said that offer needs to be taken within 24hrs or it's off the table. They wouldn't reduce the renewal rate on the 2 year lease. So, those are my final options :Take it for a year, rent someplace else, and/or possibly put in a claim. Don't really want the hassle or possible blacklisting to occur so I might just take the offer and stay 1 more year.

Make sure you end up with a LEGAL lease.
They are pressuring you to sign so you don't pursue it.
