Default East New York, Brooklyn

I would like posters who have lived in the area, or know the area pretty well, to post their experiences living there, and what the neighborhood is like. More importantly, why is crime one of this neighborhood's significant problems.

According to East New York, Brooklyn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 'There still remains a smaller Italian American community.' Anyone knows where this community is at?

Good thread. East NY is one of the ghetto's you hear less about. There are tons of photos for Mott Haven, Harlem etc but barely anything for East NY. Are there alot of projects? Or is it mostly tenements.

LOL. Maybe they are.

Anyway, I hear alot of new immigrants are moving to East New York. Is the majority still mostly African American, or is it now mostly immigrants? I guess they usually come from Africa and the Caribbean, I am sure. Maybe Mexicans? Dominicans? I also hear there still some Puerto Ricans in the area still. Sorry so many questions.

One time I wanted to explore East New York a little, like I have done in Bed-Stuy and Bushwick. But somehow, I felt like that neighborhood still way too dangerous even to explore around.

It's not tenements in the way that many parts of the Bronx are. There are some projects but also a lot of houses. The thing about ENY is that it's a vast area and a lot of it is very industrial so it's really desolate in parts. Other parts look more like Ozone Park or something but it's not a place like Harlem or Bed-Stuy where the combination of proximity to corporate areas and beautiful housing stock are going to give it a ton of gentrification potential. Personally I find the area really ugly and depressing.
