Quote:
“As far as I’m concerned, true democracy exists not when people can vote, but when people do vote,” Torres (D-Bronx) told the Daily News.

People will vote when and only when they are given a real choice, not some sham lineup provided by the ruling class. Choosing between A and A is not choice.

" Voter's want to shame politicians who think they deserve a position in office "

My right not to vote is a demonstration of my disgust for elected candidates. As an independent leaning to the left I am disgusted that Hillary Clinton was even considered to run.

So it's like a private scarlet letter scolding a citizen for not voting? Silly.

The fact that we can choose to vote or not vote is democracy. That was a dumb and redundant statement at the end of the article.

NYC hasn't been a representation of the Constitutional Republic of the United States in a long, long time. This type of facism shouldn't surprise anyone living here. Imagine the proposals we never hear about?

If you look at who is sponsoring this stupid idea and out front/center with the photo ops it gives you a clue to their motives.

Demographics of the City especially in certain areas is starting to change. However if historical trends hold the "poor" and other certain demographics will not be politically active, but the new arrivals by nature will. To put it bluntly the more whites/transplants and or wealthier residents move into former black, latino areas there is a good chance politics will change.

It will take decades until or even if certain parts of Brooklyn, Queens, and Bronx become majority white (again), but that won't matter if whites and or others come together and vote en bloc in contrast to minorities. This even if the latter holds the majority.

A couple of years ago when Cuomo was running I got a mailing from the state democrat party shaming me for not voting for several years (I had voted every year) and stating they would follow up and see if I voted in the upcoming election.

As if seeing your spotty history isn’t bad enough for some voters, Torres also said he is mulling adding a grade on the voter cards to further shame people.

The cost of the very expensive mailing campaign should be deducted from Mr. Torres salary.
