I've lived on the border of parkchester and soundview for a long time, and I've always thought the parkchester area was decent. What I really liked about the place is the look and feel of it. I like the design on the brown-red brick buildings. The statue design is unique and almost gives it a European flair.

Walking through some of the paths and seeing the courtyards, the oval fountain and it's statues, it's like my own obscure Venice in some way. I also like how there are markets set up usually on friday or saturday(?) seems to give the place a feeling of community. Fitting since it is a planned community. Any other places like this in NYC or is Parkchester unique?

Stuyvesant Town is a slightly newer version, but without the whimsical statues.

Maybe Fordham Hill Oval? Welcome to Fordham Hill Owners Corp. :: Cooperative Apartments, Bronx, NY

Not really sure, I've never been to either Parkchester or Fordham Hill Oval, but to me they feel similar in terms of what I've read about them.

Wow I didn't think it'd look that much like Parkchester.
There seem to be some in Jackson Heights as well.

Thanks for reviving this thread! I had never heard of Fordham Hill. It looks like a nice complex, and not so expensive.

I always hate parkchester. Despite its name, there is absolutely no parking. There is also very little adequate park space within in it. So I dunno why they call it “park”Chester.

Co-op City is a more new and improved version that solves these issues

It has nothing to do with parkland or parking. The complex was built on parts of two neighborhoods, PARK Versailles and Westchester village. The developers chose a part of each neighborhood name when naming the complex.

There is parking by the way, in complex garages. It's just not free.

Yeah and those aren't necessarily easy to reach. I've seen one right on the border of the complex. I would NOT want to go to get my car there at night, that's for sure. Has a hood element there, but then again most of White Plains Rd has that feel.
