As Southener who keeps an open mind,I've always wanted to come New York City. Being a 9/11 historian I've a lot of New Yorkers experince, and history of the city which I found real interesting. I made a vow if I'm ever in your part of the Northeast I would visit Ground Zero and I'm member of the Bulid the 9/11 Memorial.org and listen here in Vicksburg,Ms would u believe some still sterotype those of you up there? Just thought I pass it along becouse I don't like reginal stereotyping. Some still use the word YANKEE but I try not too. I met some New Yorkers down here and some of you are cool in my book.
As for some in Vicksburg Ms they have a lot of growing up still. I'm just someone who travels alot.

NYC LOLA one things I've been hearing on the local talk radio station here in Vicksburg Ms that irks me. One of the midwestern transplants and others keep lecturing the fact how come we locals don't appreciate what we have. But how can we..when u have local narrow mercantile familys who generate the negative image for businesses to move here. I can tell you the retails but the one thing that irks me is the Civil War. I'm so tired of hearing about the siege of Vicksburg. U know I'm not even interested in it. By the way I came close to be in NYC last summer when I traveled to Europe. I was in Philadelphia,Pa. But NYC is on my goal list.

Thats funny because someone in the Maryland forum said they were moving to GA because they want to be in the south where the "flag" is still flown. We fly our ethnic flags here as 2nd flags simply because that is our heritage, its often the 2nd language we speak, the food we eat, the last name we bear, and roots are a good thing since America is diverse. But I dont understand the good in the Confederate flag...the Confederacy was based on slavery. Southerners claim being proud of their roots, but I personally would not want to be a slave, nor a slave owner, so I dont see any thing positive about these "roots" even on the good ol white boy end. Good to see your not interested in that civil war BS and can move on.

Hey DITC my thinking like that goes back to high school I was so bored hearing the tales over and over. Listen even the National Park here doesn't impress me at all. But I don't appreciate when Southerners like those here in Vicksburg Ms still called Northerners YANKEES. Another turned off happened after 9/11 was the fact that someone said that the twin towers fell. I got so peeved, angered over that one. But down here u still have people who think the Confederacy think but not all Southeners do. There a lot of us who have look beyond the dumb Civil War.

Salaryman is on a distinguished road
Default my tale

I had a similar story to the original poster in that my car was hit while I had parked it on the street. That person untangled her car from my mangled bumper and took off like a bat out of hell without leaving a 'I is sorry' note.
Thank g-d for the nosy neighbors that saw the whole thing, they gave me the make year license plate numbers and the vivid descriptions of the hit and run perp.
After ID'ing her through the police, I was able to recoup most of the damage from her insurance carrier.
The nosy neighbors got a bottle of nice scotch for their efforts.
Like someone said, there are some bad ones and some good ones in our fair city.

Salaryman
