Uber is next gen of taxis now Hyperloop is next gen of trains it rolling out in two European cities and California by end of the year.

Imagine traveling from Midtown to Brooklyn in 2 mins or NYC to D.C in 20-30 mins ? Can this be done in NYC?

There is nothing next gen about Uber. It's the same type of cars. Hyperloop would be awesome but I don't see it happening in the US, it will probably happen in another country first.

Keep dreaming.

Our 2nd ave subway phase 1 is only 3 stations and less than 3 miles, 9 years and counting, still not done. Empire State Building was built in only 13 months. We are not as powerful as we used to.

In the near future, only the mighty China can make "Hyperloop" into reality. They have built a 20,000km high-speed rail network in less than a decade. In the meanwhile, New Yorkers are waiting for the stations on second avenue to open.

The ideal use of a Hyperloop in New York State would be to create a high-speed connection between Albany and NYC with commuter stops up and down the Hudson Valley. This would open up all the economically depressed river cities (which have no employer base, but still have great architecture and layout) for redevelopment as residential suburbs of the city. Imagine living in a classic brownstone in Troy or Newburgh, but having a 25 minute commute to Midtown.

Not that this will ever happen, in a state/city that can't even finish the Second Avenue Subway on time, but we can dream...

First order of business in the U.S. is to get rid of lead water pipes and to get kids into high school being able to READ.

In the guns vs. butter tradeoff, hyperloop is very much butter in a country that worships guns and war.

Hyperloop is supposed to be optimal for mid range distances for city to city travel. It's more a replacement for amtrak than it is for commuter rail or the subway.

Don't we need straighter tracks and lighter trains? I don't think this is possible over here.
