Ok thanks for the info, red lobster would definately be a stepping stone for me as I would look to move on up to more rich restaraunts where tourists wouldn't normally go.

if you're already a career server, or you're very good at what you do, you probably wont last long at red lobster. Something tells me the turnover there is extremely high. (it is a most franchise spots, cause the food costs so much) what you wanna do is get yourself into a good steak house or pre-theater venue, where people that are coming in already know they are going to drop some serious coin and not bat an eye.
Another thing, you might want to set your sights a little bit lower than park slope when you first get here. Theres no point shelling out 1500 a month for a lil studio in the slope when you can get a nice 1 or 2 bedroom in sunset park, bayridge or midwood for the same price. or you can get a nice studio for 1000 in those hoods and they are only a few minutes away from the slope.
And since you're gonna be working reverse hours (if youre lucky) you may wanna consider a roomate situation and save even more $$$.
Good luck

If you pay 30% taxes on that, you have $1,680 a month. So if your rent is $1600 a month, you have $80 left for everything else? Or if your rent is $1900 a month how exactly can you pay it?
Makes no sense. Even if you are cheating the goverment and not paying a dime of taxes, it is pretty much impossible to "live comfortable" on $2400 a month if your rent is close to $2000.
And to the other poster- yes, any income is taxed. Even tips. Probably alot of people don't declare it as income, but that doesn't mean they are being lawful.

I mean if you have $600 left, after you take out the taxes in stuff. Yes you can afford to have an apt. even for $1,275 a month plus cable plus ConEd plus cellphone and plus the extra you spend. I used to get paid $800 a week, $200 where for taxes and social sec. My rent is $1,275. And I managed it to live comfortable.

A rent of $1275 is very different from a rent that is close to $2000.

And like I said before you can afford it if it's under $2000. I should have said AFFORDABLE UNDER $1375.
