My experience on the IND - what do those booth people do again?
This morning, I was summonded by an urgent, um, call of Nature, to debark from my F train at 71st Street/Continental Avenue, seeking a BATHROOM. This station has them, but they were both PADLOCKED.
So, I had to get off the train, exit, and get a totally mediocre meal at some dive called the "T Bone Diner." No coat hook in the bathroom. A platoon of El Schlumpos who seem to think they're still in Mexico, judging from the snails pace service. I actually have to get up and pretend like I'm leaving to even get my check. And, they BROKE THE YOKE ON MY EGG SANDWICH! And COOKED it!
I guess that's how they make egg sandwiches in Mexico.
I finally get back to the station...heaven knows, I suppose I had some notion that the station agent would let me back on the damn train because I had already spent $3.50 on a really dreadful breakfast.
Heh, heh.
Apparently, the bathrooms are being "remodelled". That's Civil Service-ese for "we don't feel like maintaining them." Nobody's remodelling diddly there.
So...in the spirit of POSITIVITY....support the AAF.
The AAF...the American ASS Foundation. Numerous MTA employees are currently suffering from gangrene of the ASS, because they're sitting on it all day, avoiding WORK. These poor, pathetic people will all now need an ASS TRANSPLANT. They're all awaiting genetically compatible DONOR ASSES.
So...give...to the AAF. The ass you save might be your own.

Boy, I can sympathize with you, Dedalus!
I don't know what the booth attendants do. I guess if you needed directions, they could misdirect you. We have an attendant at my stop who won't refill my M'card. The reason I use humans instead of the machine is to keep them employed, fer cryin' out loud!
But it's been a long time since I've heard the lines called by their initials. Cute! Kinda like the named phone exchanges: MUrray Hill 2, YUkon 8, PLaza 7, TRafalgar 7, and the immortalized BUtterfield 8.

I think the T-bone Diner is alright for the few times I've been there. Yup there are Mexicans working there, but then again there are Mexicans working in pretty much every other restaurant in the entire city these days.
Their bathroom isn't that good though. I don't think you can lock it from the inside, only the outside. Its a pretty weird setup.

Are there ANY working bathrooms ANYwhere in the subway anymore ???
I'm not sure what booth attendants do, either. In the pre-MetroCard days, they at least handed out tokens. Now? Well ..... ummmmmmm ..... they help out when people are being assaulted in the stations.
By staying safely in the booths and calling the police.
Other than that? I dunno ..... <*shrug*>

what's with your attack on mexico? the "snail" pace is the from THAT worker and not from his whole country. I guess, a foreigner could call this display of ignorance, "typical and consistent with americans after all that's how they are in america"

Totally agree with this post, I understand you being upset on not finding a bathroom and the people at the T-bone diner had the disgrace of attending you when you are upset with the world like anyone cares that you have the runs. There was no need in the attack on a worker and on a Country that you probably have never visited, if your post is about the booth people then just talk about them and still show a little respect. Get a life

If you have lived in this city any length of time this will happen sooner or later. We have all had to go into some restaurant somewhere, and buy something we didn't want just to GO. Just be thankful you were able to get out where you were not in the middle of no where and there were no restaurants around.

It's not an attack on Mexico. That way of doing things is fine - for Mexico.
What I have a problem with is people who move to the USA from whereever and want to turn it into a place like that which they came from.
I worked for 11 years for a Latino owned company founded by a man who came up from nothing; a dear friend and mentor. He adapted - if others wish to succeed, so should they. He was still very Latino but the kind of SCHLUMPO inefficiency I'm talking about was not any part of his persona.

Sure. They have them at 179th Street Jamaica, and Main St. Flushing.
