Hi,

I've lived here for 4 years now and I am always seeking ways to avoid crowds/traffic but still have fun. Here are some of the ways that I have made life easier for myself personally, perhaps they will help some people.

1. Avoid Trader Joes and supermarkets and get home delivery instead (PeaPod)
2. Cycling to work on pathways. Avoiding stress of the subway. NYC Bike Maps - New York City's Bicycle Paths, Bike Lanes & Greenways | NYC Bike Maps
3. Go to the movies outside of peak hours. Also use AMC green passes for movie cinema tickets, 10 bucks per person for any AMC in the city even Upper West Side!
4. Optimize subway journey and transfers to avoid crowds and major terminals such as Penn Station and Grand Central
5. Rent a car from outside the city. Also use corporate discounts on rental cars if you can
6. Avoid Sunday evening traffic on the GWB at all costs
7. Use the ferry from 34th street on the east side in the summer, to go to the beach without dealing with traffic (Sandy Hook)
8. Hang out in Central Park but skip 59th street altogether and get off the subway 72nd street instead. To avoid the crowds, dust and market sellers
9. Go to Chelsea Market before 4PM one day and have $1 quality oysters without crowds
10. Get stuff delivered to work if you can't be home to accept the delivery, otherwise the depot is a serious mission to get to
11. Avoid festivals (Mermaid festival and Halloween come to mind) but do something else fun with friends in a different location

Anybody have any other ideas on how to have fun in this city without enduring the crowds ?

Walking on the road beats walking on the sidewalks during the day.

LOL I see people doing this all the time! If you want to take a risk to get somewhere fast, those metal grids never have people walking on them either!

Who is doing it? I see the crap but never see the dogs around, does anybody call them out on it?

Sometimes it looks like human crap.
