So this new development (one that I don't qualify for) - posted today, "607 West 161 Street" only has a lottery of roughly two weeks. It opens today and closes on 8/15! That's what I mean by a good lottery. I"m sure the unit won't have 89K applications!
Although I don't qualify, I feel like applying just to see what my lottery number will be. I'm sure it won't be 79K lol
I have a feeling the number of people applying will be just as high as it is for the longer timed lotteries.
There's too many breadknots informing their entire clan of hootenanny bretheran who also just arrived in NYC off the turnip truck about these lotteries via social media and ad-driven pro-gentrification blogs. That's a big part of why the applicant numbers are so high. I'm sorry, but there should be a rule that you've been a NYC resident for at least 10 years. Maybe 20!
I have preference for 461 dean (because of the CB #) and the hearing disability preference, although I can't figure out if I am considered just impaired (I am completely deaf in one ear with moderate hearing in the other) or truly disabled. They ask on the applications if you need special accommodations for your disability and I said No.

I think something will come through for you. Keep the hope alive
I worry about having a dog though. I heard these buildings are sometimes okay, just depends on the developer. I totally understand if they don't want a bunch of people moving in with dogs into these place, but I'd have to pass. Arg... Just picturing winning a sweet affordable apartment and then the rules saying, sorry no dogs. Not sure what i'd do. Well, no, I do. :/ I'd probably pass.
I have a decent log # but wanted to ask something about CB pref. When I applied to this lottery, I was within the CB, but had to move last-minute (I was a subletter and the original tenant wanted to move back to NYC). Do I lose my CB preference? I'm cool with the original tenant and she could provide a notarized doc saying when I lived there, but I definitively don't live in that apartment anymore. Any insights/experience?
The reason why your log number is only 3,xxx for MGM is because the majority of the people don't want to live in the Bronx, so they don't bother to apply. There is still a stigma attached to the place, plus the commute from midtown Manhattan is too far.
