Having lived in places that aren't NYC, there will never be affordable housing here; the demand is simply too high. Everybody wants to be here stuff for the kids, stuff for grown-ups, plenty of stores, competitive prices, lots of jobs, just... in general the idea of "my way or the highway" can't work here (sure a lot of the jobs aren't great). Other places will actually be completely out of certain jobs.

Well I guess would you rather pay 60% of your paltry income on huge rent here OR pay 25% of your non-existent income on small rent somewhere else?

It's like asking if you wanna be Nearly Drowned or Almost Saved?
