I saw a lot of the lighter shades too, towards the top. I think thats what you're talking about.

Are you talking about where the cornice used to be? (the decorative piece at the top of the building)

I wouldn't know if the building used to have a cornice or not. But the upper portion of the building (maybe 4-6 ft) is a whole lighter shade than the sorrounding bricks. The cornice would be on the upper edge (roof) no?

Curious, what is the area like just north of Kingsbridge Rd just east of Jerome Ave (Creston and Morris, 196th, Minerva to where they finish up near the curved el). It doesn't look abandoned, seems quiet, but does the picture change at night? is it families or is it shot out?

they probably re-built the parapets and the uppermost part of the facade with new brick.

Whats parapets?

And why would these buildings need rebuilding? fire or erosion?

I have not been to those exact locations but I hear those areas are bad. I had a 52nd precinct breakdown and those streets had lots of crime.

parapets are the part of the exterior building wall that extends above the roof. my guess would be wear and tear from erosion (weather)...

foreverny is on a distinguished road
I used to live in the bronx in the late 80s early 90's as a kid and I used to go by burned down, boarded up building and a hell of a lot of vacant lots... I used to live on 163'rd and Polite Avenue by the prospect station on the 2 train... that was a really intimidating place for a lot of people.... especially at night.
